I am starting to thing that Kaylin may have to extract Callum before the night is over.
I mean this could be taken as creepy or he is using the kid, but it could also be taken as him just being a parent figure. As the kid is far stronger and can more than fight back its safe to say he is choosing to stay, he also seems to think well of this guy, so no blackmail or coercion. So unless he is just tricking the kid into thinking he is nice and looking out for him, then he actually is just a nice guy. The flow so far seems to point to he is treating him as his own kid and just acting like a dad.
Some thing tells me just by the man is dressed that he is making money off the items that the kid is making. He could be a tinker or inventor himself.
