That would explain targeting the Invulnerability status. Anyone know the story of Ultima online and Lord British getting assassinated? You can look it up, I think the details were posted on the Wiki page too- XD

“Unique abilities” is an understatement. An admin could probably just force unload (banish?) people from the world.

Would not a game administrator be more powerful than a goddess from within the game? So could Elli be concerned that the administrator might rewrite her and greatly limit her powers if he finds out she is after him?

Depending on their level of access they may just have access to like some in game commands or abilities, but not like full access to the game’s code/system. Some game companies will still limit their gm accounts just for sake of bug testing/enforcing.

Hmmm. A game administrator would be more powerful than the various NPC gods and goddesses, but given it’s been implied that Elli is basically the AI that runs the world and its rules, even an administrator inside the game wouldn’t necessarily be more powerful than her. The admin would have to actually be accessing from outside the system to effect Elli, because Elli /is/ the system.

Which, admittedly, they could be doing, and would certainly explain why they can jump around between worlds and be difficult to track. Though in theory it would also make them easier to cut out of the system.

This feels like a Chekhov’s gun – Kaylin wouldn’t mention this if it wasn’t meant to be setting up some form of reveal later related to it. So the reader can know to expect such a tag in the future.

So this supposed Admin character is jumping between multiple (game) worlds. It makes us ask the obvious question of whether they are ‘trapped’ like the other adventurers are, or if they are logging in from the outside, or indeed if they are responsible for the Incident to begin with.

I know it would be incredibly cliche, but there’s another kind of ‘admin’ character that is often depicted as malicious, greedy, overpowered, and responsible for all sorts of things going wrong: a Hacker.

That said – we’ve made it this far into the story without that SERIOUSLY coming up as a consideration… so if that’s the case, it’s been a good slow burn getting here.

Auryn, I have been thinking about the hacker scenario. It doesn’t quite fit for me.
It seems that the Admin character may have created the monster hunting npcs because he realized that the world was out of balance and with all the adventurers missing he needed to try and reestablish balance, but his first attempt went to far to fast. Perhaps Kayla needs to bring him and the main goddess together so they can get the balance right?

At this point everything is possible!

The main reason I brought up the Hacker concept was looking for other reasons the tags Kaylin asks about could be present, without it being what it appears to be – i.e. just me trying to anticipate a bit of misdirection and seeing what other options could be used to explain it 🙂 My mind does stuff like that sometimes, lotta ‘what if’s. Also it’s fun when it prompts ideas from others too!

Your idea about an Admin character (who may or may not be a real Admin) trying to effectively re-create pseudo adventurers to rebalance the world is certainly possible too, and would explain most or all of the known facts! The end of the Talithar arc had a heavy suggestion that the one behind that nation was a bit more self-centered or malicious, judging from the system they had enabled – so it would be another misdirection to find out later that this Admin actually WAS well-intentioned and trying to fix things in their own way. There doesnt HAVE to be a superpowered bad guy on the other end of this equation at all!

As for getting this Admin and Ellisia (Goddess of Creation) together to get the balance right – it’s been shown Ellisia is very childlike and direct in her mannerisms and power, and it has been implied her trust is fragile or dangerous if broken. I suspect that if Ellisia has been working against this Admin as implied, it creates ‘bad blood’ that would make Ellisia unlikely to trust or take input from them. That said, Kaylin’s Silver Tongue can seemingly convince anyone… so who knows?

Either way, looking forward to the ongoing lore dump!

I ran a server for World of Warcraft for a time, yeah, having admin powers was both fun and dangerous for normal players. I ran a non-pvp server but there was always someone that would break the rules. So If I caught them (or if they were dumb enough to attack me) I’d reverse gravity on them for 5 count and then restore it so I could watch them go splat. Then I’d wait for their ghost to show up to collect their stuff and read them the “riot act” if not a ban.

Something just dawned on me, there trying to nail down what the account powers that person has. But kaylin seems to be forgetting a account that can do anything next to being a god…

And that is a Dev account if person has access to a dev account that would explain everything as to why they can move freely between games and give insight to changing npcs programs.
