Kaylin is not high priestess to anyone, certainly not Elli. Nyna’s little village is hardly a kingdom but certainly outdoes the kingdom when it comes to military power. Also your comment seems to have confused a bot on social media trying to farm interaction XD
and yeah just caught up (again) Priestess is probably a stretch- she does however have Elli’s ear insomuch as any mortal does, afaik, and actively serves her, albeit with intermediaries. I get what you’re saying but I stand by my assessment- if a little exaggerated.
Nyna I stand behind 100%. Aiya miiiiight not be a queen in a matrilineal sense, but Kingdom doesn’t have any real definition except a ruling lord and the power not to be absorbed into a neighboring monarchy. If Monaco is a kingdom, the Monster Village is a kingdom.
Except Aiya doesn’t call herself or have others call her by a title of king/queen. She’s just the effective leader. It’s not a monarchy system. Most things in the village are decided by the council while Aiya is more of a powerful entity in the village that can override decisions not through some form of government but through her personal power.
Ah. I don’t think we ever met or heard of the counsel, just heard Nyna mention that if people had hurt her, her mom would “suck their souls out of their body”… and her maid is the strongest non-dragon monster we’ve seen… and she’s in a relationship with god…
I think it’s one of those things where readers are going to take away certain implications, because you have these extensive world building notes and story scripts which get cut to keep the pace and maintain a chapter schedule- and generally I think that’s a really important part of writing and editing process, but it *does* mean you know some workings of the world which are never described in the text.
Yeah its likely a case where I could have sworn was part of a page but it likely got cut for time. The Tengu “uncle” character though is one of the members of the council, thus why he had any kind of authority when confronting Nyna. Nyna didn’t care on the point of “My mom can beat all you up” Childish but also very Monster way of thinking. My point though is and remains- they have never called themselves royalty, a kingdom- and have just said she’s treated like the village head. I don’t know why anyone would take that and try to say you should treat a village leader as if they are a king or queen but I can understand wanting to not piss off someone whom can rival most threats in the world including whole cities. I don’t think I’ve used this term in the comic but one of Aiya’s titles is “Mother of Monsters”. Nyna isn’t her only child but she only has a few she treats as her children.
And hey I get you, and now I’m better informed, but always say- authors control the meaning of a story until it’s written, then the audience will take what they take from it.
I just happen to be one of those fans who could sit for hours discussing lore without really getting anywhere and be happy as a clam. Really should catch one of those Friday streams.

A funny one is Andorra, no it’s not a Star Wars planet it’s a small landlocked nation stuck in the mountains between Spain and France. To remain independent of its larger neighbors, it decided to be dependent on both of them, and so Andorra is a co-principality, meaning it has two princes. Those are not a dynasty or anything like that, it’s based on role. One of the co-prince would be the Count of Urgell in Spain, and the other would be the King of France. At some point the Count of Urgell gave away the title to the Church, so now it’s instead the Bishop of the Diocese of Urgell… And of course, France is now a Republic so instead of the King, it’s the President. Anyways, the point was that neither co-prince could annex the land without the agreement of the other, and both had more important things to focus on in their own land, so Andorra was left alone for centuries. A successful scheme!
See thing with “principalities” -if the former head of state was also a prince, who you are the first son of, the distinction of “king” becomes just an anachronistic term without meaning, as does “prince.” Monaco has sovereign borders, ran by a feudal lord who is the son of the previous feudal lord- I’m sorry that is a kingdom. They’ve labels themselves historically as princes just to avoid conflict, but it begs the question- prince To Whom?
I get I’m splitting hairs over language, and historically Kingdom had an implied size and power, but language only exists to share knowledge, and this feels very much in the tone of “well it’s not really champagne if it’s not from the county of Champagne.” I can tolerate a duchy, though I find it a joke for much the same reasons, but a prince is the son of a king, and if it’s been a continuous line of princes back to obscurity, you are either too far removed from the royal line to maintain the title of prince (imo) or your dad was a king.
It is, historically, rather more complicated than that. In particular you have things like the partition of France post-Charlemagne, where Charlemagne’s son Louis I (a.k.a.Louis the Pious) divided the empire between his sons while he was still alive, so you had essentially three Principalities under a single King/Emperor. That… all completely fell apart after Louis died, in large part because he kept messing with things trying to make everybody happy and that just made all his (more than three) sons even less happy.
Russia was a different case. Well into medieval times Russia, similar to Italy, was less a country than a collection of independently-run and often-warring city-states. Calling yourself a ‘prince’ was fine, and lots of people did that, but actually trying to claim the title of ‘king’ would probably lead to all the neighbours deciding to teach the guy who didn’t know his place a lesson.
Basically, yeah, Principalities are essentially a historical anachronism these days, but they exist for political reasons that made sense at the time, and nobody’s felt it worth rocking the boat.

Ha! Kaylin’s tongue is as sharp as her daggers are 😀
Also very quick on the draw — two stabs before the opponent even had a chance to parry. Which he obviously failed his save roll on. It was a critical failure.
Pretty sure her tongue is sharper than her daggers, if I remember correctly her build as explained in earlier chapters was primarily favoring the social roleplay aspect of the game.
Another way to think is that in DND terms she rolled max charisma as a rogue and leaned hard into it by taking all the skills that boost rolls for persuasion, deception, and similar social skill checks.
I will need to check back on the explanation for if the demigod boost she got to her skills excluded her silver tongue/persuasion skills entirely or if it was just those skills were specifically made not to be able to apply to gods.
