The Current Path – 24

The Current Path – 24 published on 24 Comments on The Current Path – 24

Happy Thanksgiving? XD It was my birthday Monday! Thank you to everyone who wished me a happy birthday! Just a few more pages for this chapter! Then we move on- to some other stuff O_O
As for the comic – Some of you may be thinking Elista, but, Elista is not “the Goddess of Humans”. Elista is the Creator god. The Lore says she created all the things, all the peoples. So she’s venerated by all for everything, but she doesn’t show favoritism to anyone*!
*Except Callum apparently 😀

Ah, and therein lies the rub: why can’t anyone remember who the human’s god is? (:

Those are the only options you can think of? Maybe he was some conquering jackass and got deleted, maybe one of the other gods killed him and didn’t take his place, maybe he erased knowledge of his own existence. The likelihood of him being a player is extremely unlikely given that none of the others gods are, and why would humans kill their own god if there are other gods that might take advantage of that?

Not as unlikely as you’d think. While he probably wasn’t a player, he may have been a GM or maybe more. In Ultima Online, the series creator Richard Garriott would interact with players as the ruler of the kingdom Lord British. Even got ganked once when his invincibility accidentally got turned off.

Wasn’t the original Sun God that got the , or a, human god?

Or was that a different god?

Yeah, that’s what I was thinking, too. The previous Primary Sun God was a/the Human God, at least until said Sun God did something stupid and Correndel had to become the Primary Sun God. That isn’t to say that Correndel wasn’t a Sun God, but because he’s so lazy, he was likely MORE than happy to pass on most of the hard work of being The Sun God to someone else.

Personally, I suspect that Correndel was more specifically the God of Sunrise or Mornings, while the now disposed-and-likely-killed God was the Sun God.

I thought it was that Correndel was “A” God of the Sun, and specifically the High Elf version, so when Ellista took over the system, she simplified things by eliminating redundant gods, and any gods that wouldn’t cooperate with her visions for the world.

In the comments it was mentioned that the Human Sun God was sent to another world by Ellista for management reasons. Mostly because he was competent.

Hmm. My guesses are either- there isn’t currently a god over humans (like the undead don’t currently have a god iirc), since a lot of old gods’ domains got consolidated and iirc there was another sun god (but the domain fell to Correndel’s dominion); Or, the human god’s domain is something like Secrets, or Memory, existence certain but name known only to a few.
Eh, bit of a stretch, but some thoughts from 3 am insomnia brain…

Heck, God of Knowledge sounds like another plausible idea, and the humans have yet to have learned/progressed enough to earn learning more about their god or have them reveal themselves openly.
Hmmm, or in a similar vein, maybe Callum is a candidate to take the role of humanity’s god, which is why he’s so favored (and protected)? All that knowledge, inventiveness, adaptability, and other traits that encompass a human paragon… Iirc it’s possible for Elista to appoint a mortal to godhood (wasn’t Kaala once one of the powerful monsters before she usurped/replaced the “bad” god of monsters?)

If anything, it’s entirely possible that, if there IS a current Human God, they’re the God of Secrets, rather than the God of Knowledge. Remember, the first Humans that Kaylin ran into had forgotten almost everything, to the point where it was as if information about the past had been actively scrubbed from their memories. Add to that the fact that the ONE Human Territory where they DO seem to have managed to remember the past is the same territory where the God’s own visions on their own people were seemingly blocked, with them not knowing why.

Yes, all of this CAN fit under the purview of a God Of Knowledge, but it’s antithetical to the purpose of their position. For a God Of Secrets, however, it’s perfectly in line.

The only issue I have is that we’ve been introduced to 2 Gods with Major Domains & no people (Elista & King Of The Dark), 2 Gods with what I would consider Major Domains & People (Lyrestra & Correndel) and 2 Gods with an unknown or no Domain, but do have a People (Kaala & Gabriella). In other words, we haven’t seen any Gods with Conceptual Domains like Money, Knowledge, Secrets, War, or anything else along those lines.

First, Darkness is a conceptual god, he was just a low rank god of shadows until he reached space, but him being taught about money may be how we get introduced to a God of Commerce in one of the other game worlds.

The only other Game World we’ve been introduced to so far has been a Sci-Fi World, which won’t have any God’s. Secondly, Darkness isn’t really treated as a Concept in any media or mythological environment, outside of a foundational “everything that an be thought of is a concept” level. And to call the individual outright NAMED “King Of The Dark” in the Tags as a low rank god of shadows is almost certainly wrong.

Can’t remember the god of an entire race of people?

Uh. Oh. Did their statues just start bleeding from their eyes and shatter at some point?

I don’t think any of the D&D worlds has a “god of humans”…

There was one in 3.5 Greyhawk. His name was Zarus. He was also the god of racism, so it didn’t exactly go over well.

It could be that happened to the Human god assuming there was one or it could be that rather than one god every human kingdom, empire and city state had their localized god or goddess.

Assuming of course that the old sun god that got replaced wasn’t also the god of humans.

The most likely reason, given that even Kaylin can’t remember any god of humans, is that there was never a god written in the game lore. It is also possible that that is just down to the knowledge being buried under the memory dump from the start of the story or that her original self didn’t memorize all the gods before incident but that last one seems less likely given her initial reaction to Kaala due to her remembering the previous god of monsters.

In some ways the really interesting part of this is that all of them seem to be convinced that there IS a human god, and that they probably SHOULD know its name. Even the ones who were always part of the game. If it were just Kaylin not remembering that would be one thing; for none of them to know definitely implies something specific is going on.

Of course, Lyrestra has left already, but Ruindar presumably is still there and may have something to add to the discussion.

A little late to the party, but is it Ellisia or Ellista? Or are they two distinct characters/ deities?
