While i get what Sage was trying to communicate in that last speech bubble for Kaylin, even if english is not my first language, i can’t shake my head off the idea that there is something…..not fully right in the wording of that sentence:
— “They are mortal thinking enough….”

Wouldn’t something more like this be a better wording for that sentence ?
— “They are thinking enough like mortal….”

“They think enough like mortals to know that people matter.” would be a reasonable way to rephrase that sentence. I agree that “thinking” is not normally a word I see used as a noun – i.e. “mortal thinking” is an adjective phrase in this case. So linguistically it DOES work, it’s just uncommon – which is probably what caused the feeling you describe.

I understood the original text’s meaning, even if the phrasing did feel a little awkward or unusual. Maybe on re-read Sage will feel the same and tweak the language, or default to leaving it as-is; author’s choice after all. However I think it’s helpful to respectfully share when you get this kind of reaction, so thank you for doing so! Outside perspectives can be valuable, and speaking up about what you see can encourage others to do the same.

Kaylin’s Adventurer/Gamer perspective here combined with her interaction with Ellisia has definitely shattered the idea of ‘Gods’ as typically held by religions! Not all-powerful or all-knowing, limitations on their abilities, ability to be killed – the elusive ‘mod’ antagonist might actually have more powerful than most of the gods we have seen thus far!

With that said, I had to laugh at the minor unintentional pun Kaylin makes in saying that gods are not ‘cosmically’ powerful entities. The word ‘cosmic’ refers to universal concepts, and the most recent gods Kaylin has dealt with have been the gods of Sun and Moon… LITERALLY ‘cosmic’ entities! Just, not as powerful as the term usually implies. It made me grin anyway 😀
